Nomination for GE14 to begin soon

KUALA LUMPUR: The nomination process of candidates for the 14th general election (GE14) begins at 9 am until 10 am today at 222 nomination centres across the country.

It involves 222 parliamentary seats and 505 state seats. Sarawak held its state election in 2016.

According to the Meteorology Department, the morning weather forecast for today is fine in most states.

However, rain is predicted in the morning in Sarawak, such as in Sri Aman, Tanjong Manis, Hulu Rajang, Sibuti, Baram, Lawas, Lubok Antu, Igan, Mukah, Kapit, Bintulu, Miri and Limbang, as well as in Beaufort, Kinabatangan, Sipitang, Sandakan and Silam in Sabah, and also the Labuan Federal Territory.

In Perak, rain is also predicted in the morning in Larut, Bagan Serai, Lumut and Parit Buntar, as well as in Semberong, inJohor.

Parliament was dissolved last April 7 to make way for GE14, which is described the “mother of all elections” that will witness contests mainly between BN, which is led by UMNO, and the DAP-led opposition pact.

Following dissolution of the Parliament, the Election Commission (EC) fixed today for nomination, May 5 for early voting and May 9 as polling day. - Bernama
