Shouting match kicks off Teluk Intan nomination process

TELUK INTAN: Nomination day here kicked off on a sour note as Barisan Nasional (BN) and opposition coalition supporters engaged in a shouting match.

BN supporters began chanting their war cry when Gerakan chairman Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong, who is also the BN Teluk Intan Parliamentary seat candidate, entered Padang Speedy at around 8.30am.

But the 500 BN supporters’ “Hidup BN” cheers were suddenly met with the deafening counter-chants of 200 DAP supporters – and a yelling contest ensued.

Neither side backed down in the face-off which lasted five minutes, as about 100 Pas supporters marched peacefully into Padang Speedy bearing the party’s banner and flags.

Later, Teluk Intan Parliamentary returning officer Azizan Abdul Muim announced to the crowd that nominees could submit their candidacy forms from 9am to 10am.

The contest is expected to be a three-cornered fight between BN, DAP and Pas; with each having nominated their candidates, namely Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong, Nga Kor Ming and Dr Ahmad Ramadzan respectively.

As of 9.30am, all candidates have submitted their nomination forms at Pusat Bandaran Teluk Intan.
