Pilot and jet owner to help wrap up probe on sabotage claim - Liow

BENTONG: The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) will record statement from the pilot and owner of the private jet which Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had reportedly claimed to have been sabotaged.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said investigations were ongoing and that its completion hinged on cooperation from the pilot and owner.

He said despite zero reports made on the alleged incident, the government viewed it as a serious matter which required swift action.

“We are taking the claim seriously and the CAAM is looking into it. We want to know what had actually happened as we are concerned the matter is used for political exploitation....or stir some problem ahead of nomination day.

“We do not want anyone to take advantage of the situation and will look into all angles before completing the probe,” he told reporters when met after nomination at the Bentong Municipal Council hall here today.

On Friday, Dr Mahathir claimed that the aircraft he was supposed to board from Subang airport to Langkawi had been sabotaged.

The pilot cancelled the flight just before takeoff after realising some problem and immediate repairs could not be done.

Later the same day, the government ordered a probe on the matter.
