Najib: Malaysia economically stable, not bankrupt as claimed by opposition

KUALA SELANGOR: The Federal Government’s ability to cater for development projects nationwide proves that the country is economically stable, and not bankrupt as claimed by the opposition.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said if it was true that Malaysia was in a state of bankruptcy, the candidates for the 14th General Election would not be able to request for allocations to carry out development projects in their respective constituencies.

Najib, who is also Barisan Nasional chairman, said it was his responsibility as a leader to attend to any requests and approve allocations for projects to be carried out.

“I started my working visit to Kuala Selangor today with breakfast at a restaurant here. But I did not pay for my breakfast. Turns out a bigger bill was waiting for me here.

“Perhaps, it would have been better if I had paid the breakfast bill earlier after looking at the requests (made by Kuala Selangor candidate Datuk Seri Dr Irmohizam Ibrahim). I did some calculations (on the allocations requested for development projects)....it amounted to some RM1 billion.

“Putu mayam would not have cost up to RM1billion,” he said in jest at SK Puncak Alam (2) here today.

Najib said this, however, showed the state of Malaysia.

“If Malaysia is a failed nation or bankrupt as claimed by the opposition, do you think the candidates will be asking for such provisions?

“We will not afford to do it (make such requests and carry out projects). We cannot talk about building hospitals, clinics, or even repair a school field. But since we have managed the country so well, these requests can be taken into consideration.

“As the saying goes, do not worry, be happy,” he said to a crowd of about 500 educationists and teachers from Kuala Selangor during his visit to the school.

Present were Selangor BN chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar, Irmohizam, Jeram state seat candidate Zahar Azlan Arifin and Ijok candidate K. Parthiban. — Reports by Rafidah Mat Ruzki, Iskandar Shah Mohamed and Tharanya Arumugram
