Ku Nan: Umno to look into cases of party veterans leaning towards the Opposition

PUTRAJAYA: Umno will study each case involving several Umno veterans who have been seen to be leaning towards the opposition, either through their actions or statements.

Umno secretary-general Tan Sri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said if any of its former leaders were found to have violated the party’s constitution and ethics, actions would be taken against them.

He said this in response to reports that a few party bigwigs, who are known as Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad loyalists - including Tun Daim Zainuddin had taken part in the opposition’s ceramah and Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz had posted statements in her Facebook against Umno.

“We are looking at what she (Rafidah) has said. Sometimes they deny saying what they have said.

“Sometimes they say they attended (opposition campaigns) as a friend and not as a politician. This is the problem we have to deal with because in any basic context we are all friends.

“But, Umno is a fair party. We must study each case and action will only be taken if necessary,” he said.

On the possibility of those involved being sacked, Tengku Adnan reiterated the party must conduct its investigations to decide on the next course of action.

“As the secretary-general, I cannot tolerate this nonsense because we must have some discipline in the party.

“We have our constitutions and ethics. Please follow them,” he said, confirming that the said leaders were still party members.
