Some polling centres may close early due to small number of voters

TELUK INTAN: Some voting centres here may be closed early due to number of voters in the area.

Teluk Intan parliamentary returning officer (RO) Azizan Abd Muin said as there were only 57 residents in Sungai Timah, the centre might be closing as early as 3pm.

“However, this is based on previous elections. The closing time was gazetted as 3pm according to the voters. However, we will only close the voting centre after everyone has voted and keep the centre open until the official voting time ends at 5pm.

“Usually the residents come early to vote and we are able to bring back the ballot boxes to the voting centre here,”he said when met during the Election Commission preparations for the 14th General Election (GE14) at Pusat Bandaran Teluk Intan here today.

Azizan said the preparations for tomorrow’s polling day had started as early as 8am and there will be 126 polling centre chiefs to monitor 126 voting channels around Teluk Intan.

“Fortunately, we have not encountered any mishap, all ballot boxes and voting papers have been inspected before they are distributed to the voting centres.

“The polling centre chiefs will also be accompanied by a police personnel to ensure that the ballot boxes arrive safely and are safely taken back to the main polling centre.

“After the voting period has ended, we will start counting the ballot papers and hope to know the results by 10pm tomorrow,” he said.

Azizan also advised the people to come early to vote as it could rain in the evening and that might deter them from coming to vote.

He urged voters to avoid wearing logos of the party they were supporting and warned that political flags or posters placed within 50 metres of the voting centres would be removed.
