PKR makes clean sweep of Puchong constituency

PUCHONG: PKR made a clean sweep of the Puchong parliamentary constituency in the 14th General Election.

Puchong parliamentary incumbent Gobind Singh Deo secured victory with 60, 429 votes in a three-cornered fight against Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Ang Chin Tat (12, 794 votes) and Pas candidate Mohd Rosharizan Rozlan, who obtained 10, 255 votes.

PKR’s Seri Serdang state seat candidate, Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud (of Parti Amanah Negara) won 27,088 votes against her opponents, BN’s Mohamad Satim Diman, who obtained 12, 725 votes while Pas’ Noor Hanim Ismail secured 5,552 votes.

In the Seri Kembangan state seat, PKR incumbent Ean Yong Hian Wah won with a total of 34, 659 votes against BN’s Chang Toong Woh with 3,514 votes.

Election Commission returning officer, Mohd Zulkurnain Che Ali, made the announcement at the Puchong Indah multipurpose hall at midnight.

He said the voting turnout for Puchong parliamentary seat was 87.5 per cent, Seri Kembangan at 89. 5 per cent and Seri Serdang with the percentage of 87.2 per cent.

Siti Mariah and Ean Yong were present at the results announcement.

Siti Mariah said she was surprised and grateful at her victory, despite having switched seats from the Kota Raja parliamentary seat which she had held for two terms.

“I’m very surprised and I did not expect to win. It was quite different at first to contest at this seat but I thank the voters and supporters who have been supporting me all this while,” she said.
