Pakatan Harapan set to form Perak state government

IPOH: Pakatan Harapan (PH) will form the Perak state government after obtaining a simple majority of 31 assemblymen – including two from Barisan Nasional (BN).

The state's PH chairman Ahmad Faizal Azumu also revealed that a shortlist of candidates for the Perak Menteri Besar role has been presented to the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, for approval.

“Today, I would like to inform you that I have had an audience with the Sultan of Perak, and we presented him (with our proposal to) form the Perak government.

“Insya-Allah, we will form a government soon. We received (strong) support from two assemblymen from BN, (but) I don’t wish to announce (their names just yet).

“A number of the (BN assemblymen is) expected to join us (in the coming days),” he added.

Asked about details of the swearing-in ceremony, Ahmad Faizal said it was up to the Sultan’s Office to schedule the event, and he would abide by their plans.

“We will build a strong government, and I believe that the new state government will help develop the state effectively,” he added.

Asked to comment further on the Menteri Besar candidate, Ahmad Faizal said that they trusted PH's presidential council to present the name list of qualified candidates to the Sultan.

“We have no issue when PH was formed as Federal Government and we have a good relationship with PH members. Everything is going smoothly and no issues have surfaced so far.

“The candidate will come from the list and we will abide by the decision made by the Sultan," he added.
