Shafie Apdal sworn in as Sabah Chief Minister

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal has been sworn in as Sabah Chief Minister at the Istana Negeri here Saturday night.

Shafie, 61, took the oath at 9.15pm in front of Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin.

The ceremony was also attended by Tun Juhar's wife, Toh Puan Norlidah RM Jasni, and all state assemblymen from Warisan, PKR and DAP.

It is also understood that the six of the assemblymen who exited Barisan Nasional, also attended, as well as top state and Federal officials.

Shafie was sworn in after the Warisan-PH pact obtained 35 out of 60 state seats, thus enabling the pact to form the state government with a simple majority.

However, the political struggle in Sabah is expected to continue as Sabah Barisan Nasional chief Tan Sri Musa Aman, who was sworn in as Chief Minister on Thursday night, denied that he has relinquished his position.

Earlier, Musa even chaired the first state cabinet meeting at the state government administration office here.
