Seng Giaw: Stop politicisng 1MDB investigations

KUALA LUMPUR: DAP veteran Dr Tan Seng Giaw has urged the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government to stop politicising the investigation of 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) if they are sincere in resolving the case.

News portal MalaysiaGazette quoted Tan as saying any criminal wrongdoings behind the 1MDB’s losses could only be determined through thorough investigations, in accordance with the provisions of the law.

“If you want to investigate, focus on it and do it silently. One cannot make public statements, call for media conferences and put the blame on certain quarters during an investigation.

“There are procedures to follow in an investigation. If there are people who are found to be wrong from the results of the investigation, charge them so that the accused can be judged in court.

“We should not call for media conference and disclose the assumed result of the investigation. That is not an investigation but politicking with certain agenda. An investigation and media conference is different,” he was quoted by MalaysiaGazette.

Tan, who was a member of the Public Accounts Committee which investigated 1MDB, said the the election had ended more than two weeks ago and so the elected leaders need not be carried away by the culture of politicising things as they are now the rulers.

“The election is over. They have been chosen to rule the country effectively based on the sovereignty of the law,” he was quoted as saying.

Tan also told the portal that politicising the issue would tarnish the reputation of the country, which had been proven by the drop of share market.
