KUALA LUMPUR: Puteri Umno chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsuddin will not be contesting any party positions in the coming Umno elections.
Mas Ermieyati, who is Masjid Tanah Member of Parliament as well as former Deputy Tourism Minister, said the decision was made to give room to other leaders within Umno.
“As such, I have made the decision to not contest any party positions at all levels. This is to make way for other leaders, who can lead Umno towards its path to a total change,” she said via Twitter.
She also expressed hope that former Umno leaders would make way for the new leaders to take charge of the party and its wings.
“I will also be ending my stint as Puteri Umno chief, and will hand over the baton to other Puteri leaders,” she said.
She said her focus for now will be on the people of Masjid Tanah, who gave her their trust to represent them in Parliament.
