Najib to defend Umno Pekan division chief post

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak will be defending his position in the party as the Pekan division chief in the upcoming party polls.

“Umno members must be strong and continue to heal Umno. This is because Umno has contributed a lot and is synonymous with many achievements gained by the country.

“As for me, I will continue to lead Umno Pekan and would like to offer myself to defend the position of Umno Pekan division chief,” he wrote on his Facebook page on Thursday.

Najib, 65, has been the Umno Pekan division chief since 1982.

He also called on Umno members to continue the party’s struggle so that they could regain the trust of the people.

“As the (former) Umno president and Barisan Nasional chairman, I take the responsibility for our loss in the 14th General Election.

“We must rise and the time to be sad is over. We must learn our lessons, repair out weaknesses and strengthen Umno so that we can gain back the people’s trust.

Najib also shared his daily routine, saying that he now has more time to spend with his family, aside from receiving countless visits from close friends and supporters.

He added that he is now in the midst of opening an office to conduct his personal affairs and also to ease those who wish to meet him.

“I will also continue to give my cooperation to the authorities regarding the investigation against me, which is actually political revenge.

“At the moment, I have given my statements to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission twice.”

Najib has been the subject of investigations on alleged wrongdoings regarding the multi-billion dollar graft scandal at the state-owned investment fund, 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

Several homes linked to him and his family members have been raided by the police where millions of Ringgit of cash and in other currencies, jewelry and designer handbags were seized.

Barisan Nasional was defeated in the May 9th polls, the first time the coalition suffered a devastating loss after ruling the country for six decades since 1957.
