PKR to vet candidates for Sg Kandis by-election

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR has shortlisted its candidates for the coming Sungai Kandis by-election, said party president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

“We have the list of candidates which will be discussed in the next party’s meeting,” she told reporters after attending the PKR Kajang Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house here today.

The Deputy Prime Minister however refused to reveal the names of the candidates.

The Sungai Kandis state seat fell vacant when its incumbent Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei, passed away from cancer.

Shuhaimi, 50, a former political secretary of former Selangor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, died at Subang Jaya Medical Centre due to lymphoma.

In the 14th General Election, he retained the seat (formerly known as Sri Muda) for the third term with a majority of 12,480 votes, beating candidates from the Barisan Nasional, PAS and PRM.

On July 6, Pakatan Harapan (PH) presidential council meeting has decided to field a candidate from PKR.

Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said PH would use PKR logo and flag in the by-election to avoid any confusion.
