KUALA LUMPUR: Khairy Jamaluddin who has been somewhat silent, in the political scene, released a series of tweets tonight in which the former Umno Youth chief stressed he had no intention of 'jumping' parties.
Talking about Umno in his tweets, a Twitter user replied to him, "Standby laa nak lompat (Standby, going to jump)."
To that, the Rembau MP said he is not 'jumping' anywhere.
"I will always be with Umno. I just want to fix my 'house' so that it doesn't remain forever as an extreme right-wing and racist.
"You may say I'm a dreamer but I'm not the only one," Khairy said, ending his response to user @DIYSAR with a line from the famous Beatles song Imagine.
Prior to that, Khairy had lamented on how Umno is at a crossroad in having to decide whether it should take the right-wing path or the middle road.
"To the right, you may briefly win on cheers. But it'll be destroyed in 10-15 years. The middle road is not easy. The grassroots will find it difficult to understand. But that is the option available to survive," he tweeted tonight.
Khairy said if Umno opted to enter the 15th General Election (GE15) on issues such as the appointments of non-Malays as the attorney-general, chief justice and such, it can forget about reclaiming Putrajaya.
"The worries of the Malays are there, but these issues are small compared to issues such as economy, social and others," he added.
Khairy who lost the Umno presidential election recently lamented on what the party had done since the party polls concluded.
"(They) play up racial sentiments, launched a donation drive for the former president and repeat. There is nothing wrong to stand in solidarity with DSN (Datuk Seri Najib Razak) but that can't be all for the 'new' Umno.
"We received a death blow in GE14 and still we are deaf to the voices of the rakyat," he remarked.
Saying he still believes Umno can be an umbrella for the Malays with its 'original DNA of being moderate, taking the middle ground and celebrating diversity', Khairy said that is the reason why he is still with the party.
He however said he does not agree with the apparent racism that has reared its head since the conclusion of the party election.
"I did not accept any offers for positions after losing in the (party) election because I need to have the freedom to speak up in the party. Let there be many voices in Umno. Some have labelled me 'liberal' and such. Not important. What is important is that there is a dissenting voice versus the right wing in the party," he said.
Before tonight's tweets, Khairy has not commented on much via his Twitter account, apart from Retweets of several news articles among others, after the handing over of duties to his successor at the Youth and Sports Ministry, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.
Meanwhile on his Instagram, the former Youth and Sports Minister shared snapshots of a holiday break in Spain in which he also attended a Pearl Jam concert in Palau Sant Jordi, Barcelona on July 10.
