Pas to reveal decision on Sg Kandis by-election this weekend

KOTA BARU: Pas’s decision on whether or not to contest in the Sungai Kandis by-election will be made this evening or tomorrow, its secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan said.

He revealed that the decision will be made after a meeting with Barisan Nasional (BN) and Umno to discuss the issue.

“Whether Pas will field its candidate for the by-election will depend on the other opposition party.

“There must be understanding between the opposition parties. For us, it is better for a straight fight to happen in this by-election,” he told reporters after attending an Aidilfitri gathering organised by the Kelantan Media Club here last night.

In the 14th general election, Pas only managed to get 7,000 votes in Sungai Kandis, while BN garnered 11,000 votes.

“Pakatan Harapan (PH) got more than 27,000 votes, which was the biggest amount. It will not make a difference if the opposition wins in Selangor.

“However, Pas’s machinery is ready to contest in the by-election,” said Takiyuddin, who is also the Kota Baru MP.

He declined to directly answer questions on whether Pas will help BN in the by-election.

“There are a lot of (issues) which will be focused on during the by-election, such as the increase of goods’ prices and few others,” he added.
