Zawawi to focus on infrastructure development

KLANG: PKR candidate for Sungai Kandis, Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni will focus on infrastructure development if he wins in the upcoming by-election.

Zawawi, 48, fondly called Ustaz Zawawi, said among the infrastructural issues faced by the constituents, including poor drainage, waste disposal and road safety.

“There are still lanes (Jalan Kebun area) without streetlights, which can pose a hazard at night to drivers and motorcyclists especially during peak hours.

“I am also aware of the issues faced by residents in other areas in Sungai Kandis. One of them being poor drainage and illegal waste disposal, which I will get the local authorities to act on," he told reporters when met after attending the Program Insan Briged Wanita Prihatin here today.

Zawawi also said this was part of his plans to continue the efforts undertaken by his predecessor, Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei to serve the people in his constituency, especially in rural areas.

“Shuhaimi was known as someone who often goes to the ground to meet with the rakyat and listen to their issues.

“He wanted to ensure the wellbeing of the people in rural areas are well taken off and they obtain access to basic facilities, such as surau, mosques, proper roads and streetlights,”

Zawawi also said he aims to look into issues surrounding the poor and underprivileged.

“We have planned certain strategies, including meeting village heads and ways approach the people to learn about their problems. Insyallah, we will seek solutions to their issues.”

The Sungai Kandis seat was left vacant following the death of Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei on July 2 due to lymphoma.

In the GE14, Mat Shuhaimi garnered 23,998 votes, defeating Umno’s Datuk Kamaruzzaman Johari (11,518 votes), Pas’s Mohd Yusof Abdullah (7,573 votes) and Parti Rakyat Malaysia’s Hanafiah Husin (76 votes).
