Comprehensive plan needed to tackle pollution in Sg Kandis, says Zawawi

SHAH ALAM: A comprehensive plan that emphasises on strict enforcement must be drawn out to tackle environmental pollution, especially illegal dumping, that is taking place in Sungai Kandis constituency.

PKR candidate Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni said this was due to complaints received from Sungai Kandis residents on the existence of illegal dumping grounds in Jalan Kebun and Kampung Teluk Menegun that has contributed to air and environmental pollution, putting the health of the people at risk.

Zawawi said the culprits have yet to be identified and more checks will be carried out before it is highlighted to the relevant authorities for a solution.

“For example, public awareness on the preservation of the environment must be heightened and the implementation as well as enforcement of the law must be tightened,” he said.

Earlier, NSTP reported that Sungai Kandis residents have to live with serious air and noise pollution as well as dusty roads for several years due to the existence of the illegal dumping grounds.

The illegal dumping grounds are located 100 metres away from the residents’ homes and the situation is aggravated by the presence of flies and strong stench which worsens when it rains.

Residents claimed that they have not received an explanation from the relevant authorities on how the illegal dumping ground came about.

Zawawi said his vision as a state assemblyman was to see the Sungai Kandis constituency free from environmental pollution, including the suburban areas.

“I want this constituency, including the villages, to be clean and beautiful and be the best place to be in Selangor,” he said.
