PH must ensure big turnout on Sg Kandis polling day: Selangor MB

SHAH ALAM: Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) biggest challenge in the upcoming by-election for the Sungai Kandis state seat is ensuring a large voter turnout on polling day.

Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said PKR is confident of winning the race, but the victory margin will be dependent on the number of people who cast their ballot papers.

“The higher the percentage of votes cast, the bigger will be (our) vote-majority,” Amirudin said when met at the 10th Asean School Sports Championship’s closing ceremony here.

He added that Barisan Nasional’s (BN) raising of racial issues in the campaign will not adversely affect the people’s support for PH.

When asked about constituents’ rather lukewarm response to the ongoing by-election, Amirudin explained that the situation could be due to the poll being held so soon after the 14th general election.

The Sungai Kandis by-election was called following the death of assemblyman Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei of cancer on July 2.

The poll is a three-cornered fight between PKR’s Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni, BN’s Datuk Lokman Noor Adam and independent candidate Murthy Krishnasamy.

Polling has been fixed for Aug 4.
