Mind your own backyard, MCA tells Lim

GEORGE TOWN: DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang has been told to mind his own backyard first before meddling in MCA and MIC’s affairs.

This follows Lim's recent call on both the MCA and MIC to close shop if their leadership dare not even say whether they wanted Umno candidate Datuk Lokman Noor Adam to win or lose in the Sungai Kandis by-election this Saturday.

MCA publicity spokesman Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker said it was politically incorrect for Lim to call on both MCA and MIC to close shop.

“Firstly, he has no locus standi to be making such a statement, and secondly, he tends to forget that the Umno candidate for Sungai Kandis, (Datuk) Lokman was originally from PKR.

“Must Lim be reminded that PKR is also now part of Pakatan Harapan to which DAP belongs?” he asked today.

Ti said, in the past, DAP had opposed many political personalities, including Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Pakatan Harapan de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and others.

“However, DAP has no qualms of embracing these same leaders, and in the blink of an eye, changed their stand, principles and support towards these leaders.

“They are prepared to do anything as and when it suits them, irrespective of their previous pledges and promises,” he added.

DAP, he pointed out, had also embraced Pas, discarded them and re-embraced them again.

He said they had also continued to remain in the Selangor government with Pas, despite an open ugly divorce.

“Nothing has ever stopped DAP from sleeping with their enemies or swallowing their pride and dignity whenever it suits them.

“DAP has remained silent when one man with only a small number of seats in parliament dominates and dictates terms of governance to them despite DAP having previously sworn to be above racial politics and to uphold democracy and meritocracy.

“DAP has far more number of seats, and yet they prefer to swallow their pride and eat humble pie by accepting a lesser number of ministerial positions in cabinet and swallowing everything else thrown at them.

“In view of all this, it is best Lim takes a good look at his own backyard instead of interfering with other people’s affairs,” he noted, stressing that this is especially so with the latest development where DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, who is also Lim’s son, was excluded from the directorship of Khazanah despite the fact that he is the Minister of Finance and rightfully or inherently should be in the board.

Ti said Lim should be more concerned with this very fundamental principle instead of paying attention to an individual who is going to be the check and balance of the government of the day.

“Lokman is not going to be governing if he is elected and Lim should be more concerned with the implications of all these travesties of democratic principles, disregard and the disrespect of DAP.

“Lim has conveniently forgotten that Lokman was once a political personality that he and DAP had supported when he was with PKR,” he said.
