KJ: BN's shadow cabinet will be a formidable opposition to the ruling PH government

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) is ready to take proactive steps to be an effective opposition to the current Pakatan Harapan (PH) government.

Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin said one of the major moves that BN has in the pipeline is the formation of a shadow cabinet.

In a post on his twitter page, Khairy said everything is already in place and they are just waiting for an official announcement by the opposition leadership.

“We’ve been given our portfolios. Leader should just announce and ask government for formal recognition of shadow cabinet like Westminster,” said Khairy, in reference to the United Kingdom’s Westminster system of government.

The shadow cabinet consists of opposition leaders in which each mirrors the position of each individual member in the current Cabinet line-up.

Umno secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa had recently confirmed such a formation although he said BN would not call it a shadow cabinet but it will function in the same way.

The shadow cabinet will be made up of MPs from Umno, MCA and MIC.

Annuar also said Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will make the official announcement soon.
