Sabah Umno leaders dismiss 'new party' rumour as mere speculation

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Umno leaders here dismissed the ‘new party’ rumour reported recently, stating it was mere speculation.

Sabah Umno liaison chairman Datuk Hajiji Noor and the state Umno secretary Datuk Masidi Manjun, however, did not elaborate.

“This is news to me. For your information, we are still very much with Umno.

“So I have no comment on this,” said Hajiji when contacted.

Masidi merely said “It’s just a speculation” in a text reply, when asked about a news portal report a few days ago which also mentioned Kimanis Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Anifah Aman’s name as one of the leaders.

In the online report published on Saturday, the Kimanis Umno chief was linked as one of the persons calling the shots for the new political platform to rebrand themselves after the 14th general elections loss.

Quoting sources, the report said the senior state leaders were dissatisfied with the party leadership at the federal level.

Anifah when contacted said: “I don’t know where they got this from. I’m not a leader. Just an ordinary member,”

When asked if there was any truth in the rumour, he replied: “I’m not saying anything, you better asked Hajiji or others.”
