PD by-election a waste, forced onto the people: Ahmad Samsuri

SEPANG: Terengganu Menteri Besar Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said the Port Dickson by-election was a waste and would play with people’s emotions.

“The by-election will play with rakyat’s feelings. This election is forced onto the people.

“It shouldn’t be held in the first place, just fulfil someone’s wish to become prime minister, everyone is forced to carry out another election,” he told reporters today.

Ahmad Samuri also likened the by-election to the Kajang move where Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail was fielded, to enable her to become Menteri Besar.

“But in the end, someone else became Menteri Besar. This is totally a waste. A waste which will not fulfil its objective,” he said.

Ahmad Samuri also said he did not know how PKR president-elect Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was going to realise his dreams of becoming prime minister.

Anwar had announced that he would be contesting the seat following Datuk Danyal Balagopal Abdullah’s resignation as MP.

When asked if Pas would field a candidate for the by-election, he said Pas has no problem fielding a candidate.

“However we will wait for our president to issue a statement based on the outcome of Umno political bureau meeting which will be held today,” he said.

When asked if Pas was ready to work with Umno if Umno decided to field a candidate, the Pas election director said it would support candidates regardless of party.

“It doesn’t matter whether a Umno or Pas candidate or any other party for that matter, we will still support them.

“The opposition should be given opportunity to work together in this election and elections to come.

“We will work to make sure to reduce cornered fights in the upcoming by-election,” he added.

Ahmad Samuri was met at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) here earlier, after sending-off Pas Relief volunteers on a humanitarian mission to Lombok, Indonesia.

The second time mission to Indonesia, will provide food, assistance and prayer attire.

Some RM100,000 which was raised will also be used to build temporary shelters, school and mosque for those who were affected in the earthquake which hit Indonesia in July.
