PKR re-polling in Perlis, Kedah, Perak within a month

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR’s election committee (JPP) suspects that certain quarters are seeking to create chaos in the party’s ongoing polls.

PKR Chairman Datuk Rashid Din said this can be seen from the way certain quarters created chaos and resorted to rioting during the election process in Kedah.

The first stage of PKR polls kicked-off yesterday utilising the e-voting system in Perlis, Kedah and Penang.

“There is not problem with the e-voting system, the only problem was due to delay. However the cause of this problem which we detected was due to human fault. Some resorted to rioting, some created chaos. There were also who did not do their jobs, including those on duty.

“The other factor’s which caused problem (with the polling) was the slow internet. The weak internet signal caused problem with the smooth flow of the e-voting system, as the upload process was quite slow. This made every one angry.

“As such, we reached a decision in that re-polling must be completed within a month from today or to be completed before Nov 4, as regulations stipulate that election must be completed before that date,” he told NSTP, today.

The outcome of the Kedah polls was cancelled after only six out of the 15 divisions in the state conducted the election process on Saturday. The Penang PKR election however went on smoothly.

Following this, the PKR polls in Perlis and Perak which were supposed to take place today had been postponed. This is to enable the JPP to resolve all the problems related to the polls, including the e-voting system.

However, Rashid said that the PKR polls in Johor which was slated for Sept 30, would continue.

He also said the JPP would meet tomorrow to review and correct any mistakes as well as weakness’ in the party election.

The PKR election process kicked-off on Saturday, with 76 posts at the national level and 10,212 posts at the division level nationwide up for contest.

A total of 800,000 PKR members are eligible to cast their votes this time around.
