'Those who refuse to relinquish post after quitting Umno lack dignity'

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Azalina Othman Said condemned members who left the party without letting go their position in the Parliament.

The former minister in the prime minister’s department elected representatives who quit the party but refused to relinquish their position lacks of dignity.

“All (Umno members who quit the party) should let go their position as the member of parliament and state legislative assembly members because they won their seat under the party’s ticket.

“If you leave (a party), you leave without taking with you your position (in the government). You leave with dignity.

“You don’t like (the party anymore), yet you still keep its belonging (position), not wanting to return it,“ quipped Azalina in her winding up speech at the Puteri Umno annual general assembly as part of the Umno Annual General Meeting at the Putra World Trade Centre here today.

Present at the assembly were Umno vice president, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin and fellow supreme council member Datuk Lokman Noor Adam;

Umno deputy chairman Datuk Bung Moktar Radin and PAS Ameerah director Husna Hashim were also present.

Azalina said Umno will not be affected by the decision of the few members who quit the party and cited the Malay proverb, “patah tumbuh hilang berganti” (what was once lost, will always be replaced with something else)

“There is no point of longing for those who do not wish to be part of the party,” she said.
