'Take disciplinary action against Lokman Adam'

KUALA LUMPUR: The Umno Supreme Council has been urged to take disciplinary action against Datuk Lokman Noor Adam for challenging party Youth chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki to step down from his position and face him in a re-election for the post.

Umno Youth executive committee member Muhamad Muqharabbin Mokhtarrudin said Lokman, who is an Umno Supreme Council member, had proven himself to be a liability to the party by issuing such a challenge.

"The way he carries himself as a supreme council member and his use of rude language on social media will not have a positive impact on the party members. Instead, the people will distance themselves from Umno.

"We respect the presidential institution as well as what the Umno Youth chief had to say. Asyraf was merely offering advice to the party president politely," Muqharabbin said in a statement today.

On Thursday (Oct 25), Asyraf said Umno Youth wanted party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to take leave and rest in order to focus on his ongoing court case.

Asyraf had said the decision was made so that Zahid would not be burdened by other matters facing the party.

In response, Lokman uploaded a 10-minute video on social media challenging Asyraf to step down from his position and face him in a re-election. Lokman had also labelled Asyraf a failed Umno Youth chief.

Muqharabbin said the Umno Youth wing leaders advised Zahid to go on leave as they were deeply concerned about the charges faced by the party president.

"It is illogical to say that Barisan Nasional leaders who face criminal charges should only go on leave if BN was still in power.

"Therefore, I propose that that disciplinary action should be taken against Lokman for his impertinence."
