Firm action against those who raise racial and religious tensions - Unity Government Secretariat

KUALA LUMPUR: The Unity Government Secretariat Top Leadership said firm action should be taken against parties that manipulated public sentiments, leading to an escalation of racial and religious tensions.

"The meeting agrees that the Government should take firm actions in accordance with the legal framework and not compromise on any extremist actions that may jeopardise the stability of the country," said secretariat chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki in a Facebook post today.

He added that all parties of the Malaysian Unity Government agree to continue upholding the orientation and approach of 'Moderate Politics' as the foundation for the welfare and harmony of the country's multi-religious and multi-ethnic society.

"With a moderate approach to ensure stability, the unity government will be able to focus on policies that can uplift the people, especially in addressing the cost of living, ensuring quality job opportunities for the people, and ensuring the stability of the country's economy," he said.

The meeting also discussed preparations for the upcoming By-Election for the State Legislative Assembly N.06 Kuala Kubu Baharu.

"The meeting agreed to leave it to the highest leadership to nominate candidates to represent the parties of the Unity Government," he said.

"For the coordination of the election machinery for the by-election, the parties of the unity government will be jointly chaired by Senator Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir and Steven Sim", he added.
