PKR polls: Extending voting time unacceptable, says Latheefa

KUALA LUMPUR: The second round of the PKR polls in Sabah today saw the voting time for the Pensiangan division being extended past its 5pm closing.

Clearly not happy with this development, member of the party's Central Leadership Council Latheefa Koya took to Twitter to ask why this was so, insinuating in the form of a question if it was to ensure victory for a certain person.

Latheefa shared a picture of a police report lodged by one David Anthony Andipai, a PKR member in Keningau, to voice his protest over the extension in Pensiangan.

"What is this? Voting time extended beyond 5:00pm only in Cabang Pensiangan, Sabah? Why? To make whom win?" asked Latheefa.

Twitter user Galvin Wong responded to Latheefa, saying, "Voters have been waiting since morning. The reason they haven't been able to vote is because of the lack of voting facilities. To stop them now is an affront to democracy. Don't politicise this."

Latheefa scoffed at the reply, telling Wong not to lecture her on democracy.

"Haha you seriously cannot expect me to believe that do you! What a joke! Don't give me lectures on democracy.

"This is about election fraud - extending time at one particular cabang in order to make one boy win - is unacceptable!" Latheefa wrote.

Earlier, the NSTP contacted Sabah PKR coordinator Rosli Masaliku who said the party central election committee (JPP) had to prolong the voting process in Pensianganan and Tenom due to the high number of voters.

Presently, the results from Pensiangan and Tenom are not yet available.

Based on source information, the race for PKR deputy president sees Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali ahead of Mohd Rafizi Ramli in Sabah.

As of now, Mohamed Azmin won in eight divisions namely Beluran, Putatan, Kudat, Papar, Silam, Ranau, Kota Belud and Kinabatangan, while Rafizi won in Penampang, Semporna and Kimanis.

In the first round of election, involving 11 divisions, yesterday, the unofficial result shows Azmin winning in Libaran, Sandakan, Kalabakan, Sepanggar, Beaufort and Tawau.

Meanwhime, Rafizi won in Kota Kinabalu, Batu Sapi, Tuaran, Sipitang and Kota Marudu.
