I have no rights to interfere in the party election, says Anwar [NSTTV]

PORT DICKSON: Incoming PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today stressed that he will not interfere with the election process for the party polls.

The Port Dickson Member of Parliament, said this despite request from many quarters in the party for him to intervene in PKR polls, which have been marred with claims of sabotage and money politics.

All matters pertaining to party election, said Anwar, is under the prerogative of the PKR Central Election Committee (CEC) headed by Datuk Rashid Din.

“There are many people who came up and asked me to interfere but I said no. Many people including the media will not understand this situation.

“The party has decided that all matters and issues involving the party election will be handled by the PKR CEC.

“If there are weakness that should be improved, we will make an effort to discuss and address it.

“Nevertheless, I called on all quarters to ensure smooth process for the e-voting and that all parties and contesting candidates to accept the outcome of the polls with an open heart,” he told reporters after opening the Long Yi Wushu Tournament here today.

Present were State Unity, Information and National Integration Committee chairman Choo Ken Hwa and Seri Tanjung assemblyman M. Ravi.

Anwar also did not ruled issues including alleged cyber attacked and dirty tactics employed by certain quarters would lead to the delay in the result of the party election.

“Having that said, I feel that we should not prolong issues related to the party polls since it can lead to internal bickering.

“Hence, this is why I chose not to do anything,” he said.

Anwar said allegations related to fraud and sabotage arising from the party election have been reported to the police, the Malaysian Ant-Corruption Commission (MACC) or the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission for further actions.

Asked on the position of outgoing party president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the Deputy Prime Minister since she does not hold any party post onwards, Anwar said the matter does not arise.

“There is no issue since decisions have been previously made by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Dr Wan Azizah and the Pakatan Harapan leadership,” he said.
