Sabah Umno Youth members believe Yamani Hafez will return to take oath before due date

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Umno Youth members have expressed confidence that Yamani Hafez Musa will take his oath as Sipitang member of parliament before Jan 15 next year.

State Umno Youth Secretary Bahrin Abdul Karim, when contacted, believed the son of former Chief Minister and former Sabah BN chairman Tan Sri Musa Aman would return to Malaysia before his due date.

“I understand he is still in London and he needs to settle some personal matters. But I am sure he will be back to take his oath. We are told he will return,” he said when contacted today.

When asked whether Yamani Hafez’s absence from parliament would lower the people’s confidence toward the party, particularly in Sipitang, Bahrin said work on the ground would continue even in the absence of the MP.

“Also, to my understanding, he has his officer helping to deal with matters in parliament, including sending letters regarding his absenteeism. I am not sure but he (Yamani) needs to report,” he said.

Meanwhile, a source from the Sipitang Umno Youth division said Yamani Hafez’s absence would jeopardise the confidence and trust of members, some of whom have already expressed dissatisfaction.

“Having said that, we still hope he will return to take his oath. According to close sources, he will come back. At the moment, he is outside of Malaysia.”

Earlier, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof said the house will issue a final reminder to Yamani for him to take his oath immediately or risk being disqualified.

Mohamad Ariff said the Dewan Rakyat had rejected the Sipitang MP’s request to take his oath of office via video call as there was no such provision.

He also said several letters of reminder had been sent to Yamani Hafez but there has been no reply.
