Yamani Hafez remains uncontactable

KOTA KINABALU: Sipitang member of parliament Yamani Hafez Musa has not made any contact with the Sipitang Umno division since his disappearance after winning his seat during the 14th General Election.

NSTP’s efforts to contact the son of former Sabah Chief Minister and former Sabah BN chairman Tan Sri Musa Aman were futile. Calls made to Yamani Hafez’s phone number went unanswered, while there was also no response to texts sent via Whatsapp.

Sipitang Umno division deputy chief Matbali Musah, when contacted today, said he did not know Yamani Hafez’s whereabouts and had never been in contact with the Sipitang MP.

“So far, I’ve not communicated with him. I am also not sure when (Yamani Hafez will take his oath of office) but according to sources, he will return, InsyaAllah, by Jan 15,” he said.

Matbali, who is also Lumadan assemblyman, said he himself was wondering about the problems faced by Yamani Hafez, which made him unable to take his oath at the Dewan Rakyat.

Yesterday, NSTP reported that Yamani Hafez, who was former Sabah Umno Youth chief, was expected to return to the country and take his oath as Sipitang MP before his due date.

Quoting state Umno Youth secretary Bahrin Abdul Karim, Yamani Hafez was currently in London to settle some personal matters and he would return to Malaysia before Jan 15.

Bahrin, however, said he was unsure of the exact date, stressing Yamani Hafez had not communicated with Sabah Umno Youth.

Yesterday, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof said the house would issue a final reminder to Yamani Hafez for him to take his oath immediately or risk being disqualified.

Mohamad Ariff said the Dewan Rakyat had rejected the Sipitang MP’s request to take his oath of office via video call as there was no such provision.

He also said several letters of reminder had been sent to Yamani Hafez but there had been no reply.
