Tok Mat: Umno, PAS to work together for the future of Islam, Malays

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan urged party members as well as PAS to continue to work together and remain united in order to regain the dignity of Islam and to fight for Putrajaya in the next General Election.

Mohamad, speaking at the rally to oppose the International Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) at Dataran Merdeka, here, said he was confident that these could be realised based on today's turnout.

He said there was no other formula to make it happen except for the Malays to collaborate.

"Today, we stand on a lorry because we lost. People criticised us because we lost power.

"Come, let's all get back what is ours and the dignity of Islam. The huge attendance from all of you has proven that when the Malays are united, we can do just about anything.

"We will fight back for what is ours and Putrajaya in the next General Election," he said in his speech in front of thousands who gathered for the rally.

Meanwhile, Mohamad, or Tok Mat as he is more commonly known as, also reminded the Muslims to protect their own dignity.

"We hope that this historic day is the day that the Muslims unite despite having differences in ideologies and mindsets.

“Insya-Allah (God willing), Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (Umno president), Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang (PAS president) are here and we have agreed to work together for the future of Malays and Islam," he added.

According to police estimate earlier, some 55,000 took part in the rally today.
