BALIK PULAU: Only eligible Umno leaders can join Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM), says the party’s Srikandi head Datuk Seri Rina Harun.
She stressed that it was up to the PPBM leadership to decide whether to accept them or not.
“If they want to become our members, it must be due to our political struggle,” she said.
“There are criteria in order to accept them,” she said today.
“If they are just members (from Umno) then it is fine.
“However, if they are leaders then this must be decided in the party’s Supreme Leadership Council meeting.”
She was responding to queries over whether six Umno members of parliament who announced today that they were leaving Umno would be joining PPBM.
They are Hulu Terengganu MP Datuk Rosol Wahid, Mersing MP Datuk Dr Abdul Latiff Ahmad, Larut MP Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, Sabak Bernam MP Datuk Mohamad Fasiah Mohd Fakeh, Tanah Merah MP Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz and Tasek Gelugor MP Datuk Shabudin Yahaya.
Rina also dismissed speculation that PPBM could accept the MPs to strengthen the party’s position in Pakatan Harapan.
“I am from PPBM. Dr Afif (Bahardin) from PKR is here too. We work together as a coalition for the benefit of the people,” she added.
Rina was visiting the site of a RM53 million road project connecting Bagan Sungai Pinang to Kampung Pulau Betong.
The 10.2km road, which will benefit more than 20,000 residents, is expected to be completed by 2021.
