Malays, Bumiputera can rest easy with Bersatu by their side: Muhyiddin

PUTRAJAYA: The Malays and Bumiputera can heave a sigh of relief now that they have Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) to protect them, said its president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Addressing delegates on the final day of Bersatu’s annual general assembly (AGM) today, Muhyiddin said chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s policy speech, delivered last night, had set the party’s direction, which is to protect the Malays and Bumiputera.

“This general assembly is historic, as our chairman has placed a solid foundation for our struggle to defend our religion, race and country.

“I believe that the Malays and Bumiputera can now rest assured that Bersatu is a party for them,” he said.

Meanwhile, Muhyiddin said it is indeed a fact that the Malays and Bumiputera are still somewhat behind other races.

“During (the general assembly of) Bersatu’s wings, Srikandi and Armada, I suggested the creation of an ‘Agenda Bumiputera’, based on the concept of mutual prosperity, which would be implemented as the core policy of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government.

“This agenda would focus on ongoing efforts to enhance the economic achievement of the Malays and Bumiputera.

“This includes increasing household incomes, (improving) career advancement (prospects) and entrepreneurship (participation), as well as increasing wages, savings and asset ownership,” he added.

Muhyiddin, who is also Home Minister, said the key prerequisite of the policy is the equitable sharing of the country’s prosperity among all the country’s citizens, regardless of race, class and territory.

“No one in our society will be left behind. Hence, this agenda is not a racial agenda, but a national agenda,” he added.
