KJ mocks Malaysia Baru: 'Breaking promises since May 10'

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno lawmaker Khairy Jamaluddin has mocked the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government following its latest batch of appointments for Government-Linked Companies (GLC).

“Pakatan Harapan will not put political appointees in GLCs. Malaysia Baru – breaking promises since May 10, 2018,” the former Umno Youth chief sarcastically tweeted today.

Together with his tweet was a screenshot of a news article in which Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Rina Harun announced the appointment of lawyer Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla as Penang Regional Development Authority (Perda) chairman.

Mohamed Haniff Khatri has represented Prime Minister and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in a number of cases in the past.

Also announced were the appointments of Bersatu Supreme Council member Akhramsyah Muammar Ubaidah Sanusi as Mara Corporation Sdn Bhd chairman and former Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) deputy vice-chancellor Datuk Dr Sukiman Sarmani as Universiti Teknikal Mara (Unitek-Mara) chairman.

PH had previously promised to do away with political appointments for GLCs and similar agencies to depart from the culture espoused by Barisan Nasional (BN).
