Raub Forest Dept staff lodges report over misuse of government vehicles issue

CAMERON HIGHLANDS: The police confirmed it received a report from a driver attached to the Raub Forest Department over misuse of state government vehicles during the current Cameron Highlands by-election campaign period.

The driver in his police report defended his action of handing over the government vehicle to Deputy Water, Land and Natural Resources Minister Tengku Zulpuri Shah Tengku Raja Puji on Monday.

Cameron Highlands District Police Chief Deputy Superintendent Ashari Abu Samah, said the report was received at 4.50pm on Tuesday at the Raub district police headquarters.

“This case has been referred to the preliminary report on the matter and the report has also been referred to the Election Commission (EC) for further action,” he said in a statement, here, today.

Meanwhile, in the police report, the driver claimed that he had informed the Deputy Minister that the Raub Forest Department's vehicle cannot be used for campaign purposes.

The driver also denied he had driven the vehicle in question.

He claimed that the deputy minister was adamant that the vehicle be handed over to his assistant to collect and transport a gong (a traditional musical instrument) from a nearby village.

The driver, also in his report, alleged that after an hour, the deputy minister’s assistant handed over the vehicle back to the department after being "detained" by Barisan Nasional (BN) supporters.
