MACC opens ops room for Semenyih by-election

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will be setting up an operations rooms to ensure that the upcoming Semenyih by-election is free of corruption.

In a statement, the commission said the operations room will enable the public to channel any information or complaints on graft activities or abuse of power during the by-election.

It said the operations room, located on the ground level of Menara MPKj in Jalan Cempaka Putih, Off Jalan Semenyih in Kajang, will be operational 24 hours a day.

The MACC also reminded all the candidates and political parties who are contesting, not to be involved in activities against the MACC Act 2009 and the Election Offences Act 1954 (Pindaan 2012)

The Semenyih by-election was called following the death of assemblyman Bakhtiar Mohd Nor. Nomination day is set for tomorrow, with early voting on Feb 26 and polling on March 2.

So far Pakatan Harapan, Barisan Nasional and Parti Sosialis Malaysia have announced the names of their candidates, all of whom are locals.

PH will field Hulu Langat Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia treasurer Muhammad Aiman Zainali, the 30-year-old son-in-law of Bakhtiar; BN is placing its hopes on former Kampung Sesapan Kelubi Umno branch permanent chairman Zakaria Hanafi, 58; and, PSM named Youth committee member Nik Aziz Afiq Abdul, 25.
