Semenyih by-election: PH to adhere to EC rules, won't make campaign promises

SEMENYIH: Pakatan Harapan will not make any promises during the campaign period for Semenyih state seat by-election, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said.

Muhyiddin, who is also the Home Minister, said similar to the previous by-elections, the ruling coalition will fully adhere to the rules and regulations set by the Election Commission (EC).

He said PH, however, acknowledged that there are five issues affecting the constituents in Semenyih that needed to be addressed and resolved for the wellbeing of the people.

“We are aware that there are issues that have become woes for the people in Semenyih.

“The issues included traffic congestion, public transport management system as well as congestions at health clinics and government hospitals.

“Other issues included poor waste collection system and lack of petrol station for every two or three kilometres in Beranang.

“I am mentioning this not because we want to promise anything but to stress that PH recognised that these issues needed to be resolved,” said Muhyiddin after announcement of candidates contesting for the by-election here today.

PH is fielding Muhammad Aiman Zainali of Bersatu to stand in the by-election. Aiman is the son-in-law of the former Semenyih assemblyman, the late Bakhtiar Mohd Nor, who died of heart attack on Jan 11.

Although Semenyih was previously a Bersatu state seat, Muhyiddin said Aiman is expected to face a challenging task in helping the party to retain the state constituency.

“He will go to the ground to meet constituents in Semenyih and share his vision on how to address the issues, which I have mentioned earlier,” said Muhyiddin.

Meanwhile, Aiman admitted that each candidates contesting in Semenyih have their own edge and advantage.

“I will focus on issues affecting locals to win the support from the people,” said the Hulu Langat Bersatu division treasurer.

Apart from Aiman, other candidates contesting in the by-election included Zakaria Hanafi of Barisan Nasional, Nik Aziz Afiq Abdul representing Parti Sosialis Malaysia as well as philanthropist and independent candidate Kuan Chee Heng.
