Don't blame PAS if Bersatu is defeated in Semenyih, says Abdul Hadi

MARANG: PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang expressed concern that Pakatan Harapan (PH), the ruling coalition chaired by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, could suffer defeat in Semenyih because the contesting party is not getting help from the other parties in the coalition.

"Do not blame PAS if Bersatu (Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia) suffers defeat in Semenyih because PKR and DAP are not going down to the ground," he said, claiming PAS has observed that PKR and DAP were not seen as being serious about going to the ground.

Abdul Hadi said this when met at Masjid Rusila, here, today.

When asked if he would help Barisan Nasional's (BN) candidate campaign in the Semenyih by-election, he said it would depend on his situation as he was busy with several programmes in and out of Terengganu.

Earlier, Abdul Hadi stressed that PAS would support Dr Mahathir should there be a no confidence vote called against the Prime Minister's leadership.

"We will support (Dr Mahathir's leadership) eventhough we are in the Opposition... this is for the sake of an Islamic leadership...that is important," he said.

When asked how true was the rumour about a vote of no confidence against the Prime Minsiter, Abdul Hadi said PAS had information on the plan.

"If there is no wind, the tree won't shake. We have information, that is why we are supporting (Dr Mahathir's leadership)," he said.

Earlier, PAS secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan clarified that the Islamist party has thrown its support behind Dr Mahathir until the 15th General Election for the sake of religion, race and the nation.

Takiyuddin said this was expressed in a document which underlined the Islamist party’s commitment to the prime minister.

Clarifying Dr Mahathir’s claim that PAS had offered a written undertaking to not support Umno in the Semenyih by-election, Takiyuddin explained that the document was a “sample” to show PAS’ support for Dr Mahathir, on the basis of looking after the interest of the religion, nation and the race until GE15.
