PKR sec-gen respects Nurul Izzah's stand on PAC

PUTRAJAYA: PKR secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said he respected Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar’s stance on who should lead the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

Nurul Izzah quit the Parliamentary select committee last Saturday after citing her dissatisfaction over the move to retain Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee as PAC chairman after he was accepted as member of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).

The Beluran lawmaker became an independent after quitting Umno after the 14th General Election last year.

Saifuddin said he will have to speak to Nurul Izzah to discuss the matter further.

"I have not spoken to her in the past week as I have been busy. It is only fair for me to make any statement on the matter after discussing with her on the issue," he said.

Saifuddin was met at the launching the Citarasa Malaysia Programme, "A Day with Small-Medium Entrpreneurs", here today.

"I respect her stand as three-term parliamentarian. I'm sure she has her own view that the PAC should be headed by someone from the opposition coalition.

"The prime minister has also commented on the matter that PAC chairman will be replaced when there is a suitable candidate," he added.

Last week, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said Kiandee would remain as PAC chairman until a replacement was found.

PH had pledged in the 14th General Election that the post of the PAC chairman would be held by a federal lawmaker from the opposition.
