Muhyiddin to discuss Osman's resignation with Johor Bersatu reps

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will meet with the party’s Johor elected representatives today to discuss the resignation of Menteri Besar Datuk Osman Sapian.

Johor Bersatu information chief Datuk Tahir Mohd Taat said the meeting, scheduled for 2pm at the party’s Petaling Jaya headquarters, will also be attended by Johor’s 26 division chiefs.

“The meeting will… discuss the resignation of the menteri besar, as well as the names of potential (successors).

“(We) leave it to the party leadership to decide on the names to be proposed as Johor menteri besar, which will then be presented to Tuanku (Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar).

“We will accept any name proposed by the leadership, as long as the candidate… is from Bersatu,” said the Pagoh division deputy chief when contacted, today.

State executive councillors Dr Sahruddin Jamal (Bukit Kepong assemblyman) and Mazlan Bujang (Puteri Wangsa assemblyman) are among those touted as the next Johor menteri besar.

Osman’s resignation was announced by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Tuesday.
