No internal conflict within Umno over party's top leadership

KEPALA BATAS: There is no internal conflict within Umno in terms of the party’s top leadership, Umno Youth said today.

Its chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said Umno Tebrau’s view, urging party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to continue his leave and relinquish his post to make way for his deputy Datuk Seri Mohamad Hassan, better known as Tok Mat, was just the division’s personal view.

“It does not reflect the views of Umno as a whole.

“(Datuk Seri) Zahid is still the party president. He is currently on leave, and in no way affects his position.

(Datuk Seri) Mohamad is just there to take over his role temporarily,” he told newsmen when met here after presenting 500 packets of bubur lambuk in conjunction with the fasting month.

Present was Umno Kepala Batas division chief Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican.

Asyraf said it was better for Umno to focus on taking on Pakatan Harapan, which is in a disorganised state.

“I have gone down to 81 Umno divisions nationwide and party grassroots have no issue on this.

“We are all more concerned about how to help the people who are facing hardship under PH due to rising cost of living and constant U-turns in its policies,” he said.

Asked if Umno Youth had any issues with Zahid returning, Asyraf said the matter does not arise.

“It was only in the beginning we make a stand that he (Zahid) should take leave following his court cases, and that is about it.

Meanwhile, Reezal Merican, who is Umno supreme council member, also maintained there was no issue with the party’s top leadership,

“Zahid had entrusted the responsibility to Mohamad, who has been doing a great job, for example, with the by-elections.

“We (Umno) are now stronger and that is more important. The people want to see how the collaboration between the party and Pas can fight PH.” he added.
