PKR leaves it to police to investigate corruption allegation against Yunus

GEORGE TOWN: PKR will leave it to police to investigate corruption allegations against one of its Perak state executive council members.

Its secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said since a police report had been lodged, the party would leave the matter in the hands of the authorities.

“PKR's reform stance is very clear in that we don't condone any wrongdoing involving integrity. Let the due process take its course... if there is evidence of any wrongdoing, I trust the police will act accordingly.

“However, if they is no evidence, then I trust the police to act against the complainant as well,” he said during a visit to the Asean Products Trade Centre (APTC).

It was reported that a police report had been lodged against Perak state Public Facilities, Infrastructure, Agriculture and Plantations Committee chairman Abdul Yunus Jamahri.

He was alleged to have leaked minutes of the state exco meeting in order to solicit commissions from two agricultural companies in relation to their land applications.

The report was lodged by Parit Buntar PKR committee member Beh Yong Kean.

Yunus has since described the allegations as vile and a malicious conspiracy to destroy his political career.

Asked if Yunus would be summoned by the party for questioning, Saifuddin said he would not.

“Since the matter is already in the hands of the police, it is best left to them to handle it. Even if an official report is lodged with the party now, the police investigation will supercede the party's investigation,” he added.
