EC denies Perak snap election rumours

PUTRAJAYA: The Election Commission (EC) has denied allegations that a snap election will be held in Perak.

Its chairman Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun said EC conducted visits to schools from time to time as part of its efforts to check and review polling centres.

"This exercise has been carried out throughout the country since December last year, to look at the suitability of existing polling centres.

"This is also to ensure that voters in a particular polling centre are not too many. This measure is carried out under Section 7(2) of the Election Act 1958," he said in a statement.

Several online portals have claimed that a snap election will be held in Perak after a viral message that several DAP assemblymen left the party and became Independent assemblymen.

It was reported earlier today that Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming had denied the rumours.

Azhar also advised the media and the public to confirm any information related to election matters with the EC to avoid misunderstandings.
