Bersatu: DAP must state its stand on Liu's remarks

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) has urged DAP to issue a statement over remarks made by its central executive committee member, Ronnie Liu yesterday.

Its secretary-general Datuk Marzuki Yahya said DAP must state whether they agreed with Liu’s statement that the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition could survive without Bersatu.

“I think it is Liu’s personal view and does not reflect DAP’s stand. I hope DAP leaders can address this issue,” he said at the Parliament lobby today.

Yesterday, Liu had cautioned Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Bersatu making decisions which were not in line with PH values.

He claimed that Dr Mahathir was pursuing a Barisan Nasional model of having a dominant Malay-based party controlling the coalition.

He said Bersatu had the most to lose if PH broke up because of Dr Mahathir’s actions.

Marzuki said Liu’s comments were “unwise” and urged him to ask himself where he would be without Bersatu.

Meanwhile, PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Bersatu was an important component in the coalition and Liu was merely expressing his personal view.

“PH consists of PKR, DAP, Parti Amanah Negara, and Bersatu.

“And, Bersatu thus far has been playing a very positive role and is an important component in PH,” he added.
