Kimanis by-election: 'I was not scolded'

MEMBAKUT: Datuk Karim Bujang has denied he was scolded by a villager during a meet-and-greet session in Kampung Bandau, here, today.

The denial was issued following a video circulated on social media, showing a disgruntled man expressing his dissatisfaction to the Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) candidate in the Kimanis by-election.

The Membakut Warisan Division chief explained that the man was actually scolding two individuals who joined the meet-and-greet programme.

"The angry man is actually the son of an old friend, who is also my loyal supporter. I went to his house to visit his wife, who is ill.

"While walking towards his house with my entourage, which included the two individuals (a grassroot leader and a retired teacher), the man appeared suddenly and started scolding.

"The video footage appears to show as if I was getting scolded when in fact it was the two individuals. Perhaps there is a misunderstanding among them," he said in a press conference, here.

Karim said he was the victim in this situation as there were irresponsible individuals trying to take advantage to destroy his image as a by-election candidate.

He added he would not take action against those spreading the video and would let Netizens make their own assessment.

"I'm neither worried nor angry. It's nothing... The angry man had also told me not to trust the two individuals. I wanted to know more about it but at the end I just let it go because I had to visit his sick wife," said Karim.

He added the incident was also witnessed by state Agriculture and Food Industry assistant minister Rasinin Koutis and Sukau assemblyman Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman, who also joined Karim in his campaign trail.
