Kemaman by-election: Four former BN candidates working to gain votes for Raja Affandi

KUALA TERENGGANU: Four former Barisan Nasional candidates in the recent state election are working hard to garner votes for the coalition's candidate in the upcoming Kemaman parliament by-election on Dec 2.

Chukai state constituency BN secretariat chief Datuk Seri Mohamed Rahim Hussin said the BN election machinery had been activated since last Sunday in an effort to ensure victory for the coalition.

"Even though these four candidates had lost in the state election, we will continue to work to meet as many voters as possible to gain votes.

"We won't only be meeting Umno members, but voters who are sitting on the fence and those who 'merajuk' with us (who didn't vote for BN due to being dissatisfied with the coalition), so we can support our candidate for Kemaman, General (Rtd) Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor," he said when contacted.

The four former candidates had contested the state seats under the Kemaman parliamentary constituency. These are the Chukai, Kijal, Kemasik and Air Putih seats.

In the state election, the four received a combined total of 38,542 votes, just over half the number that Perikatan Nasional candidates from Pas received, at 67,239.

Of these, Air Putih garnered the most (11,336 votes), followed by Chukai (10,288), Kijal (9,645) and Kemasik (7,273).
