Anwar praises Sabah MPs for raising Sabah issues

MEMBAKUT: PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has praised Sabah members of parliament (MPs) for their attentiveness in highlighting plights of the people while in Parliament.

The Port Dickson MP, last night, said Sabah's basic infrastructure development is vital as such matters are always brought up by the elected representatives.

"I've always listened to Sabah MPs highlighting issues pertaining to basic facilities, road, and water. That means they have really carried out their responsibility well.

"However, we don't want a know-it-all minister (during question and answer session). So, I hope ministers can bring their pride down and say they will do their best to improve. This is reformation, to make changes with every effort," he said.

Anwar was speaking to villagers during a ceramah for the ongoing Kimanis parliamentary by-election at Kampung Pimping, here.

Touching on the by-election, he expressed hope for Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) to win the Barisan Nasional's tradition seat so the Warisan and PH government could focus on bringing development.

He said the by-election is going to be competitive because Kimanis, in the 14th general election, was won by former Umno leader Datuk Seri Anifah Aman, with a 156 majority against Datuk Karim Bujang of Warisan.

"However, it (winning Kimanis) should not be a problem if we work hard and together. When Warisan decided on its candidate, PH agreed and supported. There is no competition among us and this, to me, is a good achievement," he noted on the Warisan-PH partnership.

Earlier, Anwar engaged with the Kadazandusun Murut community at the Borneo Golf Country Club near here and had asked about their concerns prior to his ceramah.

In the event, three rubber tappers stood up and expressed their wishes to the PKR president to help them especially on the instability of rubber price and road infrastructure.

"I could help and get the projects for people of Kimanis by myself," Anwar responded.

"But instead of doing so, I will bring this to attention of relevant ministers and (Prime Minister) Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

"It is also important for all of you to give a chance to the new government and give your mandate to the Warisan candidate to be your voice in parliament," he added.

The Kimanis by-election will see Karim attempting to capture the parliament seat for the second time from Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Mohamad Alamin. Polling starts on Saturday.
