Polls close in Kimanis by-election; 76.14pct voter turnout at 4pm [NSTTV]

MEMBAKUT: Voting for the Kimanis parliamentary by-election ended at 5pm today, with voter turnout recorded at 76.14 per cent one hour before closing time.

The polling process started at 7.30am, and by 9am, 17.19 per cent of voters had cast their ballots. The figure increased to 50.37 per cent by noon.

At 3pm, the Election Commission (EC) recorded a 70.20 per cent turnout, surpassing its target of 70 per cent.

Ballot boxes are expected to be taken to Dewan Datuk Seri Mohd Dun Banir in Beaufort for the counting process, scheduled to begin at 7pm.

Kimanis, which comprises the state constituencies of Bongawan and Membakut, has 29,664 voters, comprising 29,654 regular voters, nine early voters and one overseas absentee voter.

The by-election pits Parti Warisan Sabah’s (Warisan) Datuk Karim Bujang and Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Datuk Mohamad Alamin.
