Kimanis by-election tough fight for Warisan as it is BN stronghold

SERDANG: The Kimanis by-election was a tough fight for Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan), given the constituency being a Barisan Nasional (BN) stronghold, Parti Amanah Negara deputy president Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub said.

Salahuddin was referring to BN's win in the by-election after polling 2,029-majority at 12,706 votes garnered by its candidate Datuk Mohamad Alamin against Warisan's Datuk Karim Bujang who secured 10,677 votes.

“We have fought well and it was a tough fight. But we are satisfied with the help and assistance given throughout the campaign.

“And the win by BN must be accepted as it was their stronghold. It was a healthy contest and we did our best.

“Warisan will do their post mortem and (the parties within Pakatan Harapan) will continue to work together and collaborate with Warisan,” he told reporters after the closing ceremony of Antibiotic Fun Run 2020 here today.

Amanah national leadership committee member Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad who was also present said the PH government must continue serving the public despite the defeat in Kimanis.

“What is important for Amanah and PH members both in the peninsula and Sabah and Sarawak is to continue their work and move forward regardless of the by-election's result,” he said.

The by-election was called as the Election Court nullified the former Kimanis MP Datuk Seri Anifah Aman’s win in Kimanis in the 14th General Election on Aug 16 last year.
