Syed Saddiq condemns PKR, DAP leaders for urging Dr M to step down

KUALA LUMPUR: Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has taken several PKR and DAP leaders to task for constantly urging Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to step down.

In a statement today, the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia Youth Wing (Armada) chief named nine leaders from the Pakatan Harapan (PH) component parties and accused them of ignoring the pact’s consensus, which was to let Dr Mahathir lead the government before PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim takes over the government.

The names mentioned were Ramkarpal Singh, Dr P Ramasamy, and Ronnie Liu from DAP as well as Dr Syed Husin Ali, Datuk Johari Abdul, Datuk Abdullah Sani, Akmal Nasir, Rafizi Ramli and Syukri Razab from PKR.

“They had been questioning Dr Mahathir’s position and going back on the PH consensus since last year.

“It’s been hardly two to three years since Dr Mahathir held the premiership and they have already started pressuring Dr Mahathir to resign.

“How can Dr Mahathir administer this country if he is being urged, pressured and attacked by those who are known as Anwar’s allies?” he said.

Syed Saddiq, who is also PH youth chief, said the leaders were also being irresponsible and have failed to put the people and nation’s interest first.

In light of the ongoing tussle in PKR, the Muar Member of Parliament also reminded his allies to first resolve internal issues within their own party instead of making efforts to push Dr Mahathir out of Putrajaya.

“Get your house in order! Stop demanding for our democratically elected Prime Minister to step down and please respect PH’s consensus!” he added.

Prior to the 14th General Election, the PH presidential council announced its decision to make Dr Mahathir the prime minister when the pact wins and that Anwar would take over after a certain period of time.

However, as of today, no dates were fixed on when the transition of power would occur.

Nevertheless, Dr Mahathir has repeatedly said that he will hand over the office to Anwar as promised, as soon as he managed to resolve all issues concerning the country and its people. This, according to Dr Mahathir could take two to three years at the very least.

Unhappy with the blurry statement, many PKR and DAP leaders began urging Dr Mahathir to step down since last year despite being in the same ruling coalition.
